Physical Landscape and Architecture

Much of Guelph's 19th century architecture and townscape still exists. The wide use of a locally quarried, warm-hued limestone has given a visual unity to much of the community. This is especially noticable in the downtown area on major downtown streets like Wyndham. There are particulary significant structures, such as Joseph Connolly's "Church of Our Lady", built in 1876, and the Renaissance Revival-style City Hall, designed by William Thomas in 1856.

There are also many subdivisions in Guelph, particularly in the southern part of the city. There is a large amount of forestry (trees and such) that are spread widely across the city. Surrounding Guelph are large farmlands and forest-like areas.

Landform Region

Guelph is located in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Lowlands landform region, and southwest of Toronto.
